If you’re a fan of melodic death metal, then the chances are that you’re a fan of Arch Enemy. Hailing from Sweden, the band was founded in 1995, by Michael Amott, who was swiftly joined by Johan Liiva, Christopher Amott and Daniel Erlandsson.
Arch Enemy diehards will consider the years in which Liiva fronted the band as their most definitive. Under his vocal rule, albums such as Black Earth, Burning Bridges and Rise Of The Tyrant established the group as metal giants in their homeland and abroad. Liiva’s larynx-shredding roar became Arch Enemy’s trademark.
Those newer to the fold will remember Angela Gossow’s searing vocals on tracks such as Nemesis and Heart of Darkness, while the latest lead-singer, Alissa White-Gluz took over in 2014. Gluz’s distinctive voice has added an air of demonic inspiration to this blistering band. Check her out on tracks such as War Eternal.
