What started out as a backing band for Linda Ronstadt went on to become one of the biggest and most influential rock outfits of all time. Founded by Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, Eagles blended country-rock, with rock ‘n’ roll, funk and bluegrass to create a sound that showcased each of the band members’ strengths.
The Eagles have a seemingly endless back catalogue of radio-friendly hits, including Take It Easy, Peaceful Easy Feeling and Lyin’ Eyes. However, the one everyone knows, and the group’s signature song is Hotel California. With Henley and Frey’s haunting ambiguous lyrics, a whiff of reggae and some blistering lead guitar work, this song removed the ‘country’ tag and established Eagles as a bona fide rock band.
Despite various line-up changes and soured relationships, the band reformed in 2017 and continue to bring their brand of rock to their many fans.
