One of the biggest-selling bands of all time, Kiss exploded onto the American music scene in 1973, complete with their trademark makeup and over-the-top costumes. The characters of Demon, Starchild, Space Ace and Catman were created as a parody of the glam-rock fashion that was in full swing at the time.
Their bombastic sound aside, Kiss commanded the spotlight thanks to theirastonishing onstage theatrics. As if four make-up wearing American football players wasn’t enough, they ramped things up with pyrotechnics, burning guitars, spitting blood and Gene Simmons’ infamous tongue-waggle.
Kiss are pedal-to-the-metal rockers. Their first album, Kiss, remains their mostpopular. However, Destroyer, featuring songs such as Detroit Rock City, God ofThunder and Shout It Loud, runs a close second.
Following in the footsteps of the best rock bands, Kiss has seen its fair share of changes to the line-up, but their raw, raucous and camp sound has never faltered.
